One time King Krishnadeveraya's ministers had bought some horses from outside. The horses were not like any other ordinary horses. They were from Arab. From the time horses came, the ministers kept on praising the horses. However, Tenali Raman didn't agree on this. He mentioned that the horses which Vijayanagar has are far more superior to these Arabian horses. The ministers didn't like his statement & challenged Raman to prove this point in a horse race.
The horse race day was decided. All the courtiers put in much effort to train their horses. They fed the horses well to make sure they were strong and sturdy.
Finally, the day of the race came. All the courtiers have their horses well-fed and healthy. However, the horse which Tenali Raman bought was very lean and thin. Surprisingly Raman also confirmed that he will be riding the horse himself.
The race was about to start in 3 seconds. Tenali Raman sat on his horse with a long pole in his hand. At the end of his pole, he tied a bundle of grass. The grass was close to horse eyes where the horse can see but would not be able to eat.
The race started. All the other horses took the initial lead but soon Raman's horse started beating everyone else. The race finished and Tenali Raman won the race. Later Tenali Raman fed the horse lush green grass.
After the race, everyone wanted to know why Tenali Raman's horse won in spite of being lean and weak. Tenali Raman told that I will tell it in front of the King. Soon everyone including Raman came in front of the King.
The King asked the same question, "Why your horse won and not those Arab's horses ?"
Tenali Raman smiled and said. My horse was very hungry and I put the food in front of the horse during the race. Throughout the race, the horse tried to eat the food but couldn't do it. Horse kept on running faster and faster and finally, we won the race.
When someone is hungry, the only thing he needs desperately is food. The more he is close to food the faster he will try to grab.
