Once upon a time, Tenali Raman embarked on a long journey. In those days, traveling between cities often meant crossing dense forests on foot. Along the way, he encountered a fellow traveler who seemed anxious.

“This area is notorious for thieves,” the man said nervously. “I fear they might rob me. May I join you on your journey?” Raman, always kind-hearted, agreed without hesitation.

एक दिन, एक अजनबी व्यक्ति अकबर के दरबार में पहुंचा और बादशाह को झुककर सलाम किया। उसने कहा, "जहांपनाह, मैं कई भाषाओं में पारंगत हूं और आपके दरबार में मंत्री के रूप में सेवा करने का इच्छुक हूं।"

अकबर ने उसकी बात सुनकर उसे परखने का विचार किया। उन्होंने अपने मंत्रियों से कहा कि वे अजनबी से अलग-अलग भाषाओं में बात करें। दरबार में मौजूद मंत्रियों ने बारी-बारी से विभिन्न भाषाओं में उससे संवाद किया। हर बार अजनबी ने उसी भाषा में उत्तर देकर सबको चकित कर दिया। दरबारी उसकी भाषाओं की जानकारी से प्रभावित हो गए और उसकी प्रशंसा करने लगे।

King Akbar greatly admired Birbal, his chief minister, which stirred jealousy in one of the courtiers. This courtier aspired to become chief minister but couldn't because Birbal held the position. One day, when Akbar praised Birbal, the courtier, unable to contain his jealousy, challenged the king. He argued that Birbal's intelligence was overrated and proposed that if Birbal could answer three challenging questions, he would concede that Birbal was truly wise. Akbar, eager to see Birbal's cleverness in action, agreed.

अकबर के राज्य में हरिनाथ नाम का एक व्यक्ति रहता था। हरिनाथ एक प्रतिभाशाली चित्रकार था। वह चित्र बनाकर अपना जीवन व्यतीत करता था। क्योंकि वह चित्रकारी में बहुत अच्छा था, इसलिए वह पूरे राज्य में प्रसिद्ध था। 

दूर दराज के क्षेत्रों के अमीर लोग उससे अपना चित्र बनाने का आग्रह करते थे। हरिनाथ एक चित्र बनाने में बहुत समय लगाता था, क्योंकि वह पहले उसकी पूरी जानकारी इकट्ठी करता था, इसी कारण उसके चित्र जीवित प्रतीत होते थे। परंतु वह बहुत पैसे नहीं कमा पाता था और कमाया हुआ अधिकतर धन चित्र बनाने के लिए कच्चे माल की खरीद में खर्च हो जाता था।

तेनालीराम और सात जूते मारने वाली चाननपुर की चमेली | तेनालीराम

चाननपुर गाँव में चांदकुमारी नाम की एक रूपवती कन्या रहती थी। वह विवाह के योग्य हो गई थी लेकिन अपनी माँ के व्यवहार के कारण उसका विवाह नहीं हो पा रहा था। उसकी माँ का नाम चमेली था जो अपने पति माधो को रोज़ सात जूते मारा करती थी। यह बात दूर-दूर तक के लोगों को पता थी इसलिए कोई भी चांदकुमारी को अपनी बहु नहीं बनाना चाहता था।

दो औरतों में से बच्चे की असली माँ की पहचान | अकबर-बीरबल

एक बार बादशाह अकबर अपने सभी मंत्रियों के साथ सभा ले रहे थे। तभी दो औरतें एक बच्चे के साथ वहां पर पहुंची और दोनों जोर-जोर से रो रही थी।

पहली औरत ने कहा "जहांपनाह! यह बच्चा मेरा पुत्र है। मैं बहुत बीमार थी और इसकी देखभाल नहीं कर सकती थी। इसलिए मैंने इसे अपनी सहेली के पास छो़ड दिया था। किन्तु अब जब मैं ठीक हो गई हूं, तो यह मुझे मेरा पुत्र देने से इंकार कर रही है।"

इस पर दूसरी औरत ने रोते हुए अकबर से कहा, "यह झूठ बोल रही है! यह मेरा पुत्र है और मैं इसकी मां हूं। यह औरत इस तरह की कहानियां सुनाकर मेरे पुत्र को ले जाना चाहती है।"

बादशाह अकबर यह निश्चय नहीं कर पा रहे थे कि औरतों को कैसे न्याय दिलाया जाए। उन्होंने अपने सबसे बुद्धिमान मंत्री राजा बीरबल को अदालत में बुलाया। बीरबल ने एक के बाद एक दोनों औरतों की बात सुनी और सिर हिलाया। फिर वह अकबर की ओर झुका और बोला, "जहांपनाह! दोनों ही औरतें इस बच्चे की मां होने का दावा कर रही है।। इसलिए हम इन दोनों को बच्चा दे देते हैं।" 

बीरबल और तीन गुडि़यां | अकबर-बीरबल

एक बार एक कलाकार तीन सुन्दर गुडि़यों को लेकर बादशाह अकबर के दरबार में आया। ये गुडि़यां बिल्कुल एक समान थी। उनमें इतनी समानता थी कि उनके बीच अंतर करना बहुत मुश्किल था। बादशाह अकबर को गुडि़यां बहुत प्यारी लगी। उन्होंने कहा, "ये गुडि़यां मुझे बेच दो और मैं तुम्हें इनकी अच्छी कीमत दूंगा।"

One time Tenali Raman went to KrishnaDevaRaya, the king of Vijayanagar. He thought he will receive some gifts from the king. Instead, the king got angry with him because he came without an appointment.

The King ordered the two guards to cut off Raman's head with a single stroke from their swords. The guards were always against Raman and wanted to take revenge on him. Hearing this they were very excited.

They took him to the riverfront and tied him to a tree. Then they started sharpening their swords. As one of the guards was about to cut off Raman's head, Raman shouted, "Wait! The King's order was to execute me by both of you together."

तेनालीराम के बाग की सिंचाई | तेनालीराम

एक बार विजयनगर में भीषण गर्मी के कारण सूखे की स्थिति पैदा हो गई। राज्य की नदियों-तालाबों का जलस्तर घट जाने के कारण पानी की विकट समस्या खड़ी हो गई। सूखे के कारण नगर के सभी बाग़-बगीचे भी सूखने लगे।

तेनालीराम ने अपने घर के पिछवाड़े एक बाग लगवाया था। वह बाग भी धीरे-धीरे सूखता जा रहा था। उस बाग के बीचो-बीच एक कुआं था, लेकिन उसका भी जलस्तर नीचे चला गया था। परिणामस्वरूप बाग की सिंचाई के लिए कूऐँ से पानी निकलना काफी कठिन था। यदि कुँए के पानी से बाग की सिंचाई कराने के लिए मजदूर भी लगाए जाते तो उसमे काफी धन खर्च होता।
