Can the Thief steal from Tenali Raman | Tenali Raman Story

This moral short story is about how a Thief tried to rob Tenali Raman and whether he was successful or not.

There was a forest which was very notorious for the thieves. It was known to everyone that if a person will cross from that forest will definitely be attacked by thieves. 

On the other side, Tenali Raman had to start a long journey and on the way, he had to walk through that forest. During the journey when he was inside the forest, another man met him. He was looking a little frightened and said, "I am alone here and I heard that this place is full of thieves. I want to go to another city but I am afraid that the thieves will rob me. Can I tag along with you ?"

Tenali Raman agreed and they continued their journey together.

As the journey was long, and it was almost night, they decided to take rest. Tenali Raman was very tired so he slept early. However, the other person didn't sleep. He carefully got up and started looking under Raman's bag for money or jewels. He even searched Raman's pockets and pillow on which Raman was sleeping. Tenali Raman was sleeping deeply so he didn't wake up.

Fortunately, the other person didn't find anything. He got fade up and slept later. He was one of the gang members who robs people walking through the forest. 

The next day they both resumed their journey. They both reached the nearby city from where their destinations were in the different directions. When Tenali Raman was about to depart, the other traveler told, "Wait! Tenali I want to confess that I am a thief. It never happened that I was not able to get anything from someone I Rob. However, you are the first person with whom I failed. Now as we are going apart, can you please tell me did you have any money? If yes where was it ?"

Raman smiled, “I knew you were a thief the moment I saw you. I took care to hide money where you would never find it.”

“But where? I looked for it everywhere,” cried out the thief. “Did you look for it under your pillow?” asked Raman.

“I looked for it under your pillow and found nothing. Why should I look for your money under my pillow?” asked the bewildered thief.

“Because I hid the money under your pillow,” said Raman, “I was confident it was the one place you would never look for my money.”
