Diwali is an Indian Festival, full of lights, a lot of sweets and worship to Goddess Lakshmi. But there is a story on why Diwali is celebrated. Today's Diwali Story for Kids will tell you why do we celebrate the festival.
Once upon a time, there was a king Dashratha. He was the king of Ayodhya. The king Dashratha was planning to crown Rama as the next king. However, Rama's stepmother didn't want this as her plans were to make her son Bharat the new King. She manipulated the King to exile Rama for 14 years from the town.
Rama's wife Sita and his brother also joined him for the exile. The 14 years was not easy for them. There was an evil king of Lanka, known as Ravana. He kidnapped Sita and flew her away to Lanka with her. When Rama got to know about this, he and Lakshmana started their journey to find her.
On their way, they met Lord Hanuman and Sugreev who helped them to build a bridge to Lanka on the sea, as there was no way to go to Lanka without flying. Using that bridge the army of Sugreev along with Rama, Lakshmana, and Hanuman went to Lanka, won the battle with Ravana and got Sita back.
It was a long wait of 14 years in the forest after which Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana finally head back to Ayodhya. On this special occasion, the complete Ayodhya city was decorated. A lot of Diyas and a lot of lights were put on. It was a grand welcome.
This is the reason why we celebrate Diwali every year. It also denotes the victory of good over evil.
