This is a story about King Midas, his special power, and his lovely daughter. King Midas was a king of great fortune who ruled the country of Phrygia. He had a blessed and fulfilling life. He lived in luxury in a great castle. He also had a beautiful daughter.

Midas had everything that he wished for, still one day a thought came to his mind. What if I have more gold! What if everything I have is made up of Gold! What if I can count golden coins every day and the day gets over but the coins don't.

The Golden Touch | Kid's Bedtime Story

One day, Dionyssus, the God of wine and revelry, passed through the kingdom of Midas. One of his companions, a satyr named Silenus, got delayed along the way. Silenus got tired and decided to take a nap in the famous rose gardens surrounding the palace of King Midas. There, he was found by the king, who recognized him instantly and invited him to spend a few days at his palace. After that, Midas took him to Dionyssus. The god of celebration, very grateful to Midas for his kindness, promised Midas to satisfy any wish of him.

Midas thought for a while and then he said: I hope that everything I touch becomes gold. Dionyssus warned the king to think well about his wish, but Midas was positive. Dionyssus could do nothing else and promised the king that from that following day Everything he touched would turn into Gold.

Midas woke up the next day with a lot of excitement. He wanted to see if the wish was really true. To test he touched a small spoon on his dining table. That immediately turned into gold. Midas was extremely happy now. He then touched the chair, the carpet, the door, his bathtub, a table and so he kept on running in his madness all over his palace until he got exhausted and happy at the same time!

He went to see his garden to enjoy some fresh air. He tried to pluck one rose. As soon as he touched it, the rose became gold. He was a little disappointed as he wanted to enjoy the fragrance of the rose.

Feeling hungry he wanted to eat something. He grabbed the apple and that also became gold. The same continued for every other food he tried to touch. Now he started to get panicked. He was trying to understand the situation, suddenly his daughter entered the room. The daughter came to hug his father and Midas touch turned her also into a gold statue.

Midas realized his mistake. He understood that the wish he was granted was actually a Curse. He begged to Dionyssus to take his Golden touchback. The god heard Midas and felt sorry for him. He told Midas to go to the river Pactolus and wash his hands. Midas did so: he ran to the river and was astonished to see gold flowing from his hands. The ancient Greeks said they had found gold on the banks of the river Pactolus. When he turned home, everything Midas had touched had become normal again. Midas was very happy especially when he saw his daughter back to life.

From that day onwards he became more generous and lived a more prosperous life. He also shared his fortune with all the needy people of his kingdom.
