Reward For The Gatekeeper | Vikram Betal

Here comes another interesting story from the Vikram Betal Collection. The story starts like this,
Once upon a time there lived a king named Chandrakant. He was not only brave but also very generous. One day, one of the main gate entrance guard from his palace's came to him and told him, “My King! Please alert all the soldiers as soon the enemy's army will attack us."

Listening to this everyone along with the King was shocked. "How come you are so sure about this?",
asked the King. The guard, however, did not give a proper reply but said please do it as it is very important.

After a few days, the attack did happen. Even though the attack was very massive but the King's soldiers were in alert already. They surpassed the attack and the enemies ran away. Once the war is over the King was very happy as because of the guard's early warning only they were able to save the kingdom. The King decided to give the guard one thousand gold coins for his information.

Next day, the guard was called in the court to receive his reward from the king. Before giving the award the King asked the guard, "How you were able to predict the enemy attack so precisely. Were you part of that group?"

The guard had no choice but, to tell the truth, this time. He said, "One night while on the duty, I got a dream that the enemy is going to attack us."

The King was happy after hearing this and gave him the reward. Just after the reward, he announced to the guard that from now on you are fired.

Everyone in the king’s court was surprised by the king’s decision, but no one dared to ask him why. The guard quietly accepted the king’s decision. He bowed down before the king and went away.

After the story, Betal asked Vikram, “Could you tell me, why the king dismissed the guard even when he had helped him to win against the enemy?"

Vikram answered, "The King rewarded him because he helped to save the kingdom. But he got that dream while sleeping that too while he was on duty. He did not fulfill his duty thus the King dismissed him."

Vikram gave the right answer and Betal flew back to his tree.

Moral:-

Dear Friends!!
"Always fulfill your duty. For a teacher, the duty is to teach kids properly, for an army officer the duty is to defend the nation, for a student, the duty is to learn and grow. Wherever you are and whatever work has been assigned to you, always do it with full loyalty."
