The Mythological Story Behind Holi Celebration | Mythological Story

This story is about a high and mighty King named Hirankashyap and his son Prahlad who was a big devotee of God Vishnu. The king wanted to be very powerful so he started praying to Brahma, the God who created the Universe. Pleased with his prayers Brahma gave him the blessing that,
He could never be killed by A Man Nor Animal,
He could not be killed Indoors or Out
He could never be killed above the ground nor on it; and neither in daylight nor in the dark.

The evil king was very pleased with the boon, as it would be impossible for anyone to kill him with all those conditions. With great power comes the great responsibility but for some comes big pride too. Hirankashyap became obsessed with power and he started thinking himself as more powerful than God. He ordered everyone in his kingdom to worship him and not God.

The irony is that Out of fear, everyone in the kingdom worshipped him except his only son who refused the Order. For Prahlad, the only power in the world was God Vishnu. Hirankashyap became blind in his anger and started hating his own son. The hate was too much that he wanted his own son to be killed as Prahlad denied to stop worshipping Vishnu.

The king tried multiple times to kill Prahlad. First, he ordered his soldiers to push Prahlad off a cliff, but God Vishnu saved him. Next, he pushed him into a well. But Vishnu again saved him. Similarly, he tried multiple more times, sometimes by elephants, sometimes by poisonous snakes but every time God Vishnu was there for Prahlad.

After many unsuccessful attempts, the king was tired. At last, he remembered his sister, Holika who had a special boon that she could never be harmed by fire. He asked his sister, Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap. Holika persuaded young Prahlad to sit in her lap and she herself took her seat in a blazing fire. But the miracle of God happened once again, and the boon was transferred to Prahlad from Holika. Holika was reduced to ashes and Prahlad came out of the fire without a single burn.

Even though Prahlad was safe, it was time for the end of Hirankashyap. Vishnu emerged as Half Human and Half Animal Avatar and killed Hirankashyap. The people in the kingdom were finally relieved by the cruel King.

This is the story of why Holi is celebrated as every year it signifies the victory of good over evil.

Moral:-
Dear Friends!!
"There might be small wins of Evil in between but at the end, the Good will always win. We should also be humble even though we have powers because power should be used for the help of others not only for our selfish motives."
