Ganesha And Kartikeya Race Story | Mythological Story

This is an Indian mythological story about Ganesh and Kartikeya's race around the world with a moral.

One day Narad Muni, the son of Brahma and a big devotee of Vishnu, came to Kailash Parbat (Mountain). Kailash Parbat was the place where Lord Shiva lived with his wife Goddess Parvati and two sons, Ganesh and Kartikeya. Narad was famous for one more thing, he was the messenger and also mischievous.

Narad brought a mango along with him and gave it to Parvati. Parvati wanted to give the mango to her both sons but Narad stopped her. He said this fruit can't be cut into two so you have to pick one son and give the fruit.

It would never be an easy decision to pick one son out of two. So to make it a fair, Narad put up a competition, where it was decided that whoever will circle around the world three times and come back first will win the competition and mango.

Both the sons got ready and Kartikeya quickly started flying on his peacock. Soon he traveled the world one time. However, Ganesh didn't go anywhere. Everyone was surprised especially Narad. Once Kartikeya finished his 2nd round of the world, Ganesh got up and circles around his father and mother three times.

Finally, Kartikeya came after finishing all the three rounds and told everyone that he has won and he deserves the mango as the prize. But Ganesh differed. Narad and Shiva-Parvati, all were now looking towards Ganesh to know why he didn't go around the world and why he circled there only.

Ganesh smiled and told everyone, "I have completed the circling around the world much before Kartikeya. For me my parents are the world and circling them is as equivalent to circling the world."

Kartikeya also understood his point and accepted that Ganesh is intelligent and he won the competition in the best way.

Moral -
Dear Friends!!
"To the world, you may be one person but for a person, you may be the whole world. It is truly said, that the person you love and respect the most is your world and you should always love and respect him or her. "
