Did you know that Lord Hanuman once forgot about his own powers and had to be reminded of how strong he truly was? Let's read this fascinating story!
Sampati, an old eagle, lived on a rock by the southern seashore. One day, he saw a group of monkeys gathered on the beach and asked why they were there. Jambuvan, an elderly bear, explained, "Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, was living in the forest with his wife, Sita, and brother, Lakshmana. When the two brothers were away, Sita was kidnapped. Our king, Sugriva, who is Rama's friend, sent us to find her."
An old bird nearby recalled seeing a woman being carried away by Ravana, a demon king.
"That must have been Rama’s wife, Sita!" exclaimed Sampati. "Ravana took her to his island fortress of Lanka, which is across the sea, hundreds of miles away."
One of the monkeys suggested jumping across the sea to reach Lanka. The monkey commander then asked each monkey what their jumping capability was.
"What do you mean by 'potential'?" a monkey asked, confused.
"How far can you jump?" clarified the commander.
The monkeys took turns estimating their jumping distances. One could jump 20 feet, another 100 feet, and another 200 feet. But none of them believed they could jump hundreds of miles to reach Lanka.
Jambuvan then pointed to a quiet monkey sitting alone and said, "There is one hero among us who can leap to Lanka. It's Hanuman."
The commander was surprised. "But Hanuman isn’t saying anything. He’s so quiet."
"That's because Hanuman doesn't know his own potential," Jambuvan replied. "Let's help him discover it by chanting a mantra."
The monkeys gathered around Hanuman and chanted, "Hanuman, you can! Hanuman, you can! You can do it, Hanuman!"
As they chanted, Hanuman began to grow in size. He became larger and larger until he stood tall, stretched his arms, and, with a powerful leap, launched himself across the sea, propelled by the continuous chant: "Hanuman, you can! Hanuman, you can!"
Hanuman landed in Lanka, found Sita, and delivered Rama's message to her. He then brought Sita's message back to Rama. Hanuman thanked his friends for helping him realize his strength and potential!!
